The countless blessings of the year now closing call for a renewed observance of the sacred custom, and inspire all hearts in deep thankfulness to offer the tribute of praise. I do, therefore, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, appoint there- for, THURSDAY, the twenty-sixth day of November meat. And I do earnestly exhort the people that on that day they put aside the ordinary labors and cares, and in their accustomed places of worship and by their firesides acknowledge their obligations to Almighty God for His rich bounty; that they strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, and increase their devotion to state and country; and that they consecrate their lives to Him from whom cometh every good and perfect gift.
