In the preparation of the following Catalogue, the Author has consulted personally most of the works referred to. They are contained in the Library of the Academy of Natural Sci- ences which embraces the largest collection of works on Con- chology in the United States. Acknowledgments are due to WILLIAM G. BINNEY, Burlington, N. J., THOMAS BLAND, New- York, TEMPLE PRIME, New- York, WILLIAM M. GABB, Philadelphia, and others, for valuable information and advice. In order to guard as far as possible against errors and omis- sions, most of the lists herein contained have been corrected by their respective Authors. The proof sheets have also been revised by the works re- ferred to. It is hoped that this little volume will prove a convenient and useful aid to Conchologists at home and abroad, by directing their attention to the labors of men, many of whom published but little, and are now almost forgotten, but whose papers are nevertheless valuable ; and by furnishing, as nearly as possible, accurate dates of publication. Should these objects be realized, the Author will have reaped an abundant reward for the care and labor bestowed. GEO. W. TKYON, JR., 625 MAKKET STREET. PHILADELPHIA, April 1st, 1861. The Transactions were pub- lished in Parts, but afford no internal evidence of the date of their issue, which has unfortunately resulted in much uncertainty in regard to the priority of many of the specific names. Mr. Lea has given in the Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences, Vol. vii, p 236, a list of dates of publica- tion, which I have deemed it important to insert here. (See References in Parenthesis.) I have also given the date on which some of the articles were issued in the Proceedings of the Philosophical Society. Mr. Lea claims that the date of publication of a paper, is that on which it is read. IN PROCEEDINGS OF THE ACADEMY OF NATURAL SCIENCES, PHILADEL- PHIA.
