AN EXPLANATION AND AN APPEAL The manuscripts, pamphlets and books which have been placed on exhibition upon the One hundred and fiftieth Anniversary of the College are intended to illustrate, so far as may be, the history and growth of King's College, Columbia College, and Columbia University, but in no respect to represent the literary productions which have emanated from these sources. The original charter of the Governors of the College of the Province of New York in the City of New York in America and the minutes of their meetings, the grant of King's Farm, the series of diplomas representing the administrations of twelve presidents, the autograph letters of many distinguished officers and alumni, the records of the Alumni Asso- ciation and of classes, and the publications showing the growth and development of the College, possess, it is believed, much historic and personal interest. The collection covered by this Bibliography has been the accu- mulation of time rather than of effort, and is in no sense complete, for only within the past few years has any systematic attempt been made to bring together and collate all that may properly be called " Columbiana." But having attained its present size, the collection should be, and it is hoped will be, increased by gifts of publications of all kinds, class and alumni records and other memorabilia, either in manuscript or print, relating in any way to the University, its officers, alumni and students. It is intended that all such records shall be carefully preserved and systematically arranged in a sepa- rate room in the University Library, in order that they may be avail- able to the Alumni and to all who are interested in the history and life of the University. John B. Pine, 'yy, Clerk of the Trustees Columbia University October 31, 1904 1 9 VI ITY V or A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF MATTER RELATING TO KING'S COLLEGE, COLUMBIA COLLEGE AND COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY As this Bibliography is intended to cover only what might be called the historical section of a collection of Columbiana, official publications, such as cata- logs, announcements, etc., are not included.
