In that length of time we have accumu- lated an immense stoch of negatives, embracing every accessible point of interest on the Pacific Coast and adjacent tertdtory, in the Hawaiian Islands, Mexico and British Columbia. As it ivould be impracticable to Catalogue our collection in its entirety, we have endeavored by comparison and careful selection to reduce our stoch, and place in our Catalogue only such views as will illustrate the subjects from their most artistic point of view, and contain the best technical qualities, photo- graphically. While this plan, to ci certain degree, limits the number of views to select from, it is on the other hand an advantage to the purchaser, as every view ordered may be coionted upon as being the very best possible to be made. Aside from our catalogued series, we have numbers of negatives of special subjects, such as mines, places of historical interest, famous Jiorses, interiors of ivell-hnown piivate residences, etc., etc., in fact negatives of nearly everything possible to photograph. We ivill be pleased to furnish detailed description of such vieivs to amjone desiring it. By a system of exchange with foreign artists, we have also a limited stock of views from Europe, China and Japan, not many in number, but most excellent in artistic and technical quality. A further description of this series will be found under the head of "Miscellaneous." From time to time will be added, in the shape of an appendix, such views as are constantly being made by us in different parts of the countjv/. Prominent among the additions will be a complete series of Alaskan vieivs, the shortness of the summer season necessitating repeated trips before the series can be called full and complete. Those we alrendy have are descnbed and classed uruler the "Miscellaneous" heading. We solicit correspondence regarding views of all subjects, whether catalogued or not. The Hotel del Monte is palatial in its appointments and surroundings. The Carmel Mission, founded 1770, four miles south. The old town of Monterey contains some interesting relics of early days; it was the capital of California under the Mexican and Jesuit Fathers' dominion. Near the town is the site of Fremont's Fort, where the United States flag was hoisted on the 7th of July, 1846, when California joined the Union. ^J. MONTEREY AND VICINITY-HOTEL DEL MONTE.
