 Were worthy of those sires, whose records now 
 Rest in a grander home this side the bay. 
 
 The courage gay that led both sires and sons 
 Before the embers quite had time to cool 
 
 To build new cities on a larger scale 
 
 Gave us fresh hope to start our Summer School. 
 
 To you, our guests, a welcome we extend ; 
 
 You come to teach us all the latest lore; 
 Yet, wise men from the East, we teach you now 
 
 A lesson never so well taught before. 
 
 Here can you see a city that rebuilds 
 
 Its fortunes, dauntless of the blows of Fate 
 
 A city that, above its ruins, shows 
 
 The soul that lives beside the Golden Gate.
