Yon parents dear pray pay attention, And feeling Christians lend an car, Unto those lines that I now mention, A tale most shocking for to hear ; It's of a sad destructive fire, Which six poor souls has deprived of life, In Sandwich Street, in BuTten Crescent, It did eccur last Christmas night. In Sandwich, in Burton Crescent, This fire happened as I now tell, And to the all devouring element, Six poor souls they have victims fell. At 42, iu Sandwich Street, Francis Beetleston dwelt we hear, With his dear Wife and lour small children, Whose lives arc sacrificed we hear ; It was on the night of happy Christmas. When hearts were merry, gey, and light, This fire occurred, which does alarm us, And caused this sacrifice of life. Mary Ann Beetleston had been confined, With a darling boy bul seven days, Poor little soul its stay was short here, To Heaven its soul was born away ; The husband is bowed down with grief too, By the sad ca[amity as we hear, May God above him relief too, And receive his wife and childeen dear. A little girl, Rosinina Brown there, W as on a visit from her home, Among the victims she was found there, And her friends in sorrow for her do mourn This fire has caus’d much gr*ief and woe then The mothsr dead, and her children near, Their blackened forms could scarce be known then, Shed for their sad end a tear. Tde landlord Winnett, the jury censured, And could not hold him faee from blame, For if had rendered proper assistance, Some human life there might have been saved ; But he thought more of hisChristmasdainties Than to mete ou; an helping hand, To him they were nearer than life, Oh shame upon, that unfeeling man. Upon this terrible disaster I cannot longer bear to dwell, That fire it is a dreadful master To all around is known full well; Now for she poor souls that have perished, Christians, shed a silent tear, In Heaven may their souls be cherished, Should be all a heartfelt prayer Digley, .Printer, 57, High.
