THE VETERAN CORPS OF ARTILLERY OF THE ; STATE OF NEW YORK Adjutant’s Office 32 East 42d Street June oth, goaee New Yor« City, Pursuant to Resolution adopted at an informal meeting of the Uniformed Detachment, May 31st, 1909; to wit: That the Detachment accept the invitation of Vice-Commandant Pell, one of the Champlain Ter-Centenary Commissioners appointed by His Excellency, Governor Hughes, to proceed to Plattsburgh, N. Y., and act as escort, and, if requested, as guard of honor to the President of the United States, who will review the Parade on the occasion of the Celebration, July 7th, 1909; and that the Adjutant be authorized to contract for a special sleeping car and to provide the necessary subsistence on board the said car for twenty-five men, the Adjutant to notify by circular letter the Society and Corps of the arrangements as and when completed. The Adjutant hereby notifies the members of the Society and Corps that a large sleeping— drawing room—kitchen car has, through the Pullman Company, been contracted for; that transpor- tation has been arranged over the lines of the New York Central & Hudson River and the Delaware & Hudson Canal Company Railroads at a reduced rate; and that a chef, waiters and porters have been engaged. The car will be attached to Train No. 71, N. Y. C. & H.R. R. Co., leaving Grand Central Station, Tuesday July 6th, at 6:55 P. M., arriving at Plattsburgh, 4:50 A. M. Dinner and Breakfast on car. Parade and Festivities during day, July 7th. Luncheon on train. Afternoon free for suitable entertainment. Supper on train, leaving Plattsburgh, Delaware & Hudson Station at ro P. M., arriving New York, Thursday, 7:20 A. M. Cost of trip: Berth in car, Meals, Railroad Fare, all included, $25. per capita, based on twenty- five men joining the excursion. Each officer and man will be given space for a large suit-case, and will travel in fatigue, or ser- vice, dress. Full dress uniform complete will be taken, including both black and white trousers and capes. A large representation from the Corps have already signified their intention to participate in this excursion and to parade. Please send your acceptance, and check for Twenty-five (25) dollars, to order of Charles Isham, Paymaster, in envelope enclosed. A prompt reply to this circular is essential and necessary. At a meeting of the Uniformed Detachment Veteran Corps . _ Artillery, held Nov. 4th, 1908, a Recruiting Committee was " gappointed with power to prepare and publish a circular letter (stating qualifications necessary for membership, to give the «privileges accruing from such membership and to publish a roster for information of all concerned. (2 The Veteran Corps of Artillery, State of New York, organized in 1790 exclusively by officers and soldiers of the War of the Revolution, is a legally constituted Artillery Reserve in the Active Militia of the State of New York under “the Militia Law of Congress and special acts of the New York State Legislature. Under the existing Military Law, it is under the orders of the Commander-in-Chief. Its membership consists of men uniformed, armed and equipped, many of whom served in the Army or Navy of the United States, the Volunteers or in the National Guard. (See roster Active Members). The privileges of membership include: Regular course of instruction in Artillery and Infantry drill, School of the Soldier, Setting-up Exercises, Pistol Practice and Manuel of Sabre. 2. Special instruction, machine gun, coast defence drill, under Regular Army Officers in the forts in New York Harbor. 3. Stated service in Corps confers exemption from jury duty in State of New York. » 1 4. The Corps has its headquarters in the Armory, 7Ist Regiment Infantry, National Guard New York, 34th Street and Park Avenue, New York City. 5. The drills are from November Ist to May Ist on alternate Wednesdays, at Five o’Clock P. M. 6. The Annual Mess Dinner is on January 8th in every year. QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP. a. Applicants must, pursuant to law, be at least 18 years of age and members in good standing of the Military Society of the War of 1812. b. Membership is limited to descendants of Officers and rank and file of honorable record in the Army and Navy of the United States during the War of 1812 and to descendants of original Revolutionary members, Veteran Corps Artillery. (See roster original members Veteran Corps Artillery). The Corps parades annually for Inspection and Muster by the Adjutant-General of the State of New York, who is by law its Inspector. Bill of dress may be obtained on application to the Quarter- master, and further information from the Secretary.
