More will be found scattered through The Guide. Write for further suggestions or information to Interstate Guide Company, 205 La Salle St. A NORTH SHORE OUTING A Trip . No more beautiful ride can be had around Chicago than to start at Evanston on the Chicago & Milwaukee Electric R. R. to northward along the beautiful North Shore where handsome homes are interspersed with bits of wild woods, to Fort Sheridan where two hours can be pleasantly and profitably spent. Total fare round trip 40 cents. — A Delightful Picnic Trip. For a pleasant afternoon and evening picnic excursion one can be satisfied by taking a State & Archer Limits car to The Limit’s station, then a Chicago & Joliet car down the Drainage Canal through a wooded valley where, in the Spring and Summer, thousands come to gather mushrooms, past Lemont and Lockport to beautiful Dell- wood Park (see page 2 3 for time cards, etc.). This park is situated on a high and rolling site, com¬ manding a view of miles in extent in every direction. Fountains of sparkling water from wells 1,000 feet deep, swings, merry-go-rounds, a fine dance floor, boat- , ing, an electric tower and many other attractions go to make this an ideal place for old or young to enjoy them¬ selves and forget the heat of the day that is past. The round trip costs 75 cents fare. A DAY’S OUTING Can be profitably spent by taking an Aurora Elgin & Chi¬ cago train at their Fifth Ave. Station (258 Fifth Ave.) to Aurora, spend an hour there, then on to Elgin, take dinner at the Fosgate Hotel, visit the great Elgin Watch Works and home at any time convenient to yourself. This entire ride of 100 miles for only $1.25 if you buy a “Pan-Handle Ticket.” To Milwaukee. Take Northwestern Elevated marked “Evanston Ex¬ press” to Evanston, then Chicago & Milwaukee Electric R. R. to Milwaukee, eighty-five miles from Chicago. Milwaukee is an interesting city to visit and has many beautiful parks, boulevards and fine residences. The population is largely German, and while it is made famous by a certain liquid product, still the city is a close rival to Chicago in its Lake Shipping, and many and varied manufacturing industries give it solidity. See Pages 35 to 42 for time tables. Total miles round trip 170; fare $2.60. Limited train, city fare included. Local train fare, $2.10; city fare included. A delightful Saturday afternoon trip is had by taking a Chicago & Joliet car to Joliet, then to Aurora by the Joliet & Southern, then back to Chicago by the Aurora, Elgin & Chicago R. R. Supper can be had at good hotels in either Joliet or Aurora, and the trip home made in the cool evening. Round Trip rate $1.25. North Shore Outing No. 2. Leaving Evanston on the 8:00 A. M. car one passes through Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Hubbard Woods, Glencoe (noted among automobilists for their “bump the bumps” or elevated crossings to keep down speeding au- toists), Ravinia Park, Ravinia, Highland Park, Highwood, Fort Sheridan and Lake Forest, all of which are noted for their beautiful and comfortable homes. We then come to North Chicago, a manufacturing suburb of Waukegan, then to Waukegan itself, a busy bustling little city of perhaps 20,000. Here are some very large and prosperous manufactur¬ ing plants, such as Corn Products Co., American Steel and Wire Co., etc. In any of these towns passed a good meal may be had, a carriage or auto hired, or postal cards of buildings or scenes of note be bought. Lake Michigan is in sight all of the way where the wild woods do not obscure the view. Wild flowers in profusion grow here and a ramble through these woods is a delight to be long remembered See pages 35 to 4 2 for time tables. Total miles round trip 72; fare 90 cents. THE REAL COUNTRY Near Chicago can be seen in a trip over the Joliet & South¬ ern Traction Co.’s lines from Aurora to Plainfield then to Joliet and on to Chicago Heights. The contrast of the busy manufacturing cities and the quiet country, towns, and the fertile farming country trav¬ ersed is very noticeable. Total miles 47; fare 85 cents. Further trips for Summer Outings are found on inside of back cover. 66 ELECTRIC INTERURBAN RAILWAY GUIDE 66 ELECTRIC INTERURBAN RAILWAY GUIDE This Electric Interurban Railway Guide is Distributed FREE From the Folder Racks in the following Hotels and Prominent Places of Business and from the Ticket Offices of all Electric Railroads whose time tables appear herein.
